Brisbane Pickleball Classic at Pat Rafter Arena: A Weekend to Remember

Brisbane Pickleball Classic at Pat Rafter Arena: A Weekend to Remember

The Brisbane Pickleball Classic took over Pat Rafter Arena on the 27th and 28th of September, filling the courts with energy, laughter, and plenty of competition.

It was the first time this iconic venue hosted pickleball, and the atmosphere showed just how far the sport has come in Australia. From beginners experiencing their first tournament to athletes chasing medals, the weekend was a celebration of the game at every level.

JOOLA was proud to play a big part in the event. We supplied the balls, nets, and courts that kept the matches flowing and we gave players the chance to win something truly special. Two Guava Rush Pro IV paddles, an Asia Pacific exclusive colourway, were up for grabs at the JOOLA stall. The vibrant design caught plenty of attention and it was exciting to see players lining up to enter the giveaway.

Athletes delivered some of the best action of the weekend.

Our sponsored player David Richardson offered free coaching that helped new players find their confidence. Ange Green fought her way to a silver medal in the Women’s Open Singles. Thanh Huynh dominated with gold in the Men’s Open Singles, silver in the Mixed Doubles with Lindsay Baker, and silver again in the Men’s Open Doubles with Lachlan Donnelly.

It was inspiring to see these players push each other and to watch the community cheer every rally.

The Classic was about more than podium finishes. It was about the spirit of grassroots pickleball. New faces walked onto court and discovered what makes the game so addictive. Experienced players shared tips and encouragement, creating an environment where everyone felt welcome. This mix of social energy and competitive drive is exactly what is fueling pickleball’s rapid growth in Australia.

Events like this matter. With Tennis Australia expansion program Pickleball Aus backing the tournament, pickleball is stepping further into the national spotlight. Hosting it at Pat Rafter Arena was a clear sign that the sport belongs on big stages. For Brisbane’s community, it was a chance to celebrate together and to show what is possible when passionate players come together.

The weekend closed with plenty of smiles, new friendships, and a sense that this was just the beginning. For JOOLA, it was a privilege to be there with the equipment, the paddles, and the passion that drives the game forward.

Pickleball in Australia is on the rise, and the Brisbane Pickleball Classic proved that the momentum is only getting stronger. If you want to be part of it, explore our Beginner’s Guide, learn the game with our A to Z of Pickleball, or find the right gear in our Paddle Guide.

The Brisbane Pickleball Classic reminded us that this sport is about connection as much as competition. We cannot wait to see where the next event takes us.
